Musician and mentor. Top solo artist and bandleader. Heart and art. Tommy Coomes’ unique combination of gifts has meant 3 decades of significant contributions to contemporary Christian music—and counting.
Tommy is a pioneer and innovator in the modern praise-and-worship movement. In the 70’s, Tommy was a founding member of the groundbreaking CCM group Love Song. He launched the creative department of Maranatha! Music, and directed it for nearly 30 years, producing or executive producing several hundred recordings, including the popular Praise Album series. He founded The Praise Band in 1989 to explore new forms of worship and evangelism with Greg Laurie, which led to working with Franklin Graham and forming the music teams for Promise Keepers.
Tommy regularly ministers with Franklin Graham, Billy Graham, and at churches and concerts throughout the U.S. and overseas. He is committed to mentoring and training the next generation of worship leaders and often teaches worship teams in local settings, drawing on his wealth of experience as an innovator and pioneer in contemporary Christian music (CCM).
Tommy's favorite Scripture is Psalm 40:3—“He has put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord” (NIV). He and his wife, Shelley, live in Nashville TN. Their two sons, Tyler and Erick, are also professional musicians.
